Geraniums & Ancestors: Allies that Welcome Us Home

I have always been drawn to geraniums — their vibrant flowers, distinctive scents, and the gentle, protective energy they bring into a space.
Over the years, I’ve kept them in my gardens and often worked with them energetically to help cleanse and brighten the energy of my home. When I lived in Southern California, geraniums seemed to thrive abundantly around me whether I paid much attention to them or not. And interestingly, since moving to British Columbia, I’ve found the same thing to be true here as well.

A few years ago, I visited Slovenia for the first time — the land where my maternal ancestors come from. Almost immediately, I noticed geraniums everywhere. Planted on windowsills, hanging baskets, and gardens outside what felt like nearly every home, especially in the capitol city of Ljubljana (where these photos were taken).
I remember feeling deeply welcomed by the plants themselves, a spirit-to-spirit hello. A powerful validation.
Throughout that trip, there were many moments where parts of myself suddenly made more sense through the experience of being in the land my ancestors came from. Seeing geraniums everywhere was one of those moments.

My lifelong connection to these plants no longer felt random or purely aesthetic — it felt connected to something older, something carried through generations.
Sometimes we are drawn to certain plants because they have supported not only us, but also those who came before us.
Plants have nourished, healed, protected, and supported our ancestors long before modern medicine and technology.
Sometimes a plant may feel familiar because, in some way, it already knows you.
This is one of the many reasons I feel so passionate about exploring our relationships with plants not only through practical knowledge, but also through intuition, energetic connection, memory, symbolism, and lived experience.
Inside Intuitive Plant Allies, we gather each month to explore a featured plant through practical information, energetic connection, guided meditation, intuitive development, and shared reflection.
These spaces are an invitation to slow down, listen more deeply, and reconnect with the living world in a more meaningful and intuitive way.
