If you feel called to perceive energy more deeply and strengthen your intuition —whether you’re beginning your journey or refining your existing practice—these three foundational cornerstones will help you develop clarity, confidence, and trust in what you perceive.

Introduction
If you are someone who has the desire right now to learn how to perceive the energy of anything—of the non-physical—more deeply, I invite you to consider three cornerstones that will allow you to perceive the energy of Spirit and the non-physical with greater ease and certainty.
Cornerstone One: Understand What Is YOU
In order to perceive the energy of anything out there—external to you—you first need to become familiar with the energy of you.
Cultivate a meditation practice that works for you. Get into the habit of clearing and cleansing your field, protecting your energy, and going inward. Notice yourself, each and every day.
One of the most common questions I hear from people developing their psychic abilities is:
“How do I know if the message I’m receiving is something I made up or something coming from Spirit?”
From my perspective, it is near impossible to answer this question accurately until you have a consistent practice of noticing yourself, your energy, in meditation, grounding, releasing energy that isn’t yours, and regulating your field—your body, chakras, and aura.
I know some people hear the word meditation and think, “Oh no, I’ve tried that, I’m not good at it.” In fact, that was me years ago! I had a very active mind, and I found it hard to sit still. What helped me was working with energy tools first—learning to ground, center, and move energy before trying to “quiet the mind.”
Rather than trying "not to think" when you begin a meditation practice, you can start by using visualization and energetic tools to release energy, bring in what you need, and check in with your body. Over time, you will naturally find that it becomes easier to embrace stillness in meditation, without any effort.
Create a daily or regular routine—even just 5–10 minutes—to ground and check in with your energy. The goal is to know what’s you and what’s not you, so you’re not unconsciously taking on the energy of people or situations around you.
Cornerstone Two: Give Yourself Structure
We’re most aware of what we focus on.
Just as your physical eyes see only what you’re looking at, your intuitive sight perceives what you give attention to.
So, when it comes to reading energy with your non-physical senses, give yourself a structure.
You don’t have to use the same one every time, but structure can be a wonderful starting point that helps build confidence.
For example, if you want to take a look at someone’s energetic body, it helps to visualize a simple framework first—something like a simply mockup of the body (one of my teachers loves to call this the "gingerbread cookie" and yes, you can make it fun, easy, and simple!)
From there, notice what moves, what "lights up", what feels active or heavy. That’s much easier than saying, “Okay, show it to me!” with no focus or structure at all. Over time, your process will naturally become more fluid, but starting with a framework helps you build trust in what you perceive.
Then, simply communicate whatever you notice.
Cornerstone Three: Adopt a Childlike Mindset
The third cornerstone is to adopt a childlike mindset—a beginner’s mind. Notice what you notice, and say it.
As adults, we tend to filter what we perceive through logic. We analyze before speaking because we don’t want to be wrong, sound silly, or make a mistake. But this filtering often blocks the flow of information and limits what Spirit is wanting to show you.
When I used to teach music classes to 7-, 8-, and 9-year-olds, I loved their honesty. They had no filter—for better or worse! “That color looks funny on you,” or “I don’t like this piece, can we play the other one?” It was always truthful. Every experience for them was new, and they shared exactly what they noticed.
For us, it’s important to consciously be in that frame of mind and heart.
When you’re reading energy, regulating your field, and creating your structure, whatever you notice—that’s what Spirit is showing you in that moment. Don’t judge it.
Communicate it.
In professional practice, discernment comes later—knowing what to share aloud and what to leave for Source to resolve with that person's Higher Self.
But in the learning phase, your job is simply to express what you perceive. Don’t censor yourself.
This is often hardest for those who are already accomplished in other areas of study. We want to bring those standards of perfection into spiritual work, but intuition doesn’t work that way! There’s no “should,” no universal template. Everyone’s connection with Spirit is unique, and your intuitive “language” develops over time through experience.
Approach it with lightness, playfulness, and curiosity—and you’ll deepen your perception far more quickly.
